Right to a home office: these are the plans for the fall

Hubertus heil wants to enshrine the right to work from home in law and present a law by the autumn. Everyone who wants to, and whose workplace allows it, should be able to work in a home office – even when the corona pandemic is over again.

"I am working on a new law for a right to home office, which i will present by fall. Everyone who wants to, and whose workplace allows it, should be able to work in a home office – even when the corona pandemic is over again", heil told the "bild am sonntag" newspaper. Employees should then be allowed to switch completely to home office or even work from home only one or two days a week.

The proposal by the federal minister of labor and social affairs has met with criticism

The chairman of the employees’ group of the union faction in the bundestag, uwe schummer, rejects plans by federal labor minister hubertus heil (SPD) for a right to a home office. "We also want to demand and strengthen home work," schummer told the "neue osnabrucker zeitung" (tuesday).

We want to create the legal framework for working at home, but "we want to leave the differentiated negotiation to the collective bargaining partners," said schummer. "We don’t need a legal right to do this."

There has already been criticism of the plans from the ranks of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, and they are also being rejected by the employers. Heil, on the other hand, received support from grunen and the FDP.
