schmuck company celebrates 50th anniversary

It was in may 1963 in grobenbrach, when kurt schmuck sen. Together with his older brother ortwin founded a painting company. The craftsmanship was done by the two brothers together, the office work was done by kurt schmuck’s wife brigitte. Over the course of 50 years, what was originally a small painting business has grown into a company that now employs around 70 people. The acquisition of the painting company max pflug in 1964 and the development of new business fields also contributed to this.

After brigitte schmuck took over the sole management of the company in 1978 and kurt schmuck jun. After graduating as a civil engineer, he joined the technical management of the company and gradually expanded into other business areas such as concrete repair and general contracting – especially turnkey refurbishment of old buildings. At the end of 1995 kurt schmuck jr. Took over the company. Finally, the management. Since 1999, he has been supported by his wife sabine, who, as a business graduate, is in charge of the commercial department.

There have also been significant changes on the construction sites during this time. While most of the work used to be done by hand, over the years more and more machines such as excavators, cranes and cleaning machines have come into use. In the beginning the company was also quite limited in its radius of action, today the schmuck company also handles construction projects at ever greater distances – up to 200 km. In the meantime they are often on the road in the metropolitan areas of frankfurt and stuttgart.

With increasing coarseness the space requirements of the company with office, workshop and warehouse became more and more coarse. The company was initially located in a former farm in grobenbrach, but in 1965 it moved to the kurhausstrabe in bad kissingen. In 1970/71, a new company headquarters was built in garitz with a great deal of own work. At the same time, the foundation of the department "construction company" was made. In 1994, the company moved into its current, much larger headquarters in the reiterswiesen/arnshausen industrial area, with a surface area of around 14.000 square meters. A branch in heilbronn was added in 2005.

Special emphasis placed by kurt schmuck jun. Still relying on well-trained personnel. Schmuck has always been a training company and over the decades has offered more than 150 young people the opportunity to train as painters/plasterers or bricklayers as well as in the commercial sector. A large part of the apprentices have remained loyal to the company and today form a significant part of the workforce. "We see investing in training as one of our most important tasks for the future," said the company’s CEO, explained company boss kurt schmuck. "That’s why we are very happy that we can offer the trainees weekly lessons in our company by a retired vocational school teacher, even in the technical theory. Our corporate philosophy has also helped us to open up new specialized fields of business, such as concrete repair in civil engineering, and to further increase the company’s competence through continuous staff training."

This competence had also made it possible to successfully handle both small construction projects and very extensive and complex contracts with a volume of more than 13 million euros. Examples include numerous projects for the U.S. Army, the new construction of an extensive clinic extension in several stages in wurzburg, extensive facade designs with full thermal protection or concrete repair, but also under the conditions of monument protection, bridge renovations, complex renovations of underground garages or especially the new construction of a three-dimensional skate park made of in-situ concrete in stuttgart.
