Venezuela’s totalitarian, Nicolás Maduro, has a brand-new public-relations clothing working for him, and this one has a direct line to the White Home. It isn’t some expensive Washington lobby store. It’s the Colombian federal government, headed by President Gustavo Petro, who met President Biden in Washington on Thursday.
Mr. Petro is attempting to get global sanctions on Venezuela raised even as Mr. Maduro declines to bring back democracy. Offered the Colombian’s résumé, that includes previous subscription in the M-19 terrorist group, this isn’t unexpected. However the Biden administration’s signals, regardless of claims that Venezuelan intransigence is a nonstarter, spell problem.
